All techniques
Decorative plaster
Marmorino, stucco veneziano and tadelakt. Lime plaster applied by hand in thin coats and burnished to a soft, deep sheen.
Limewash
Matt, cloudy limewash that lets moisture through. For old walls that can't cope with emulsion, and for anyone who wants a soft, lively wall.
Concrete look
Walls, floors and showers in microcement. One continuous surface without joints, three millimetres thick, even over existing tiles.
Plastering new builds
Plastering ready for wallpaper or paint, for new builds and conversions. For homeowners, contractors and architects around The Hague.

Robert de Jong was 24 when he left for Italy in 2001, with a plastering diploma in his pocket and little idea of what lime could do. At a restoration workshop near Vicenza he spent three years on palazzi and villas where the plaster was sometimes four hundred years old. He learned to apply marmorino, to age lime putty and, above all, to wait until a coat is ready.

Town house in the Statenkwartier: ceilings, arch and cornices
Three reed ceilings from 1904, cracked from one ceiling rose to the next, and a plastered arch between the front and back room. We fixed the loose sections, ran four metres of new cornice and finished everything in limewash. Nine working days, with the family living in.
Villa in Wassenaar: marmorino in the living room
A living room of over forty square metres with one long wall as the centrepiece. Marmorino in a warm grey-brown, four coats, burnished by hand. The owners chose the colour after three test panels.
Benoordenhout: concrete-look bathroom
Straight over the old tiles, so no demolition. Walls and the basin wall in one continuous surface of microcement, in a warm sand colour. Done in six working days, drying time included.

Our 1904 ceiling had cracks running from one ceiling rose to the other. Robert didn't just fill them, he fixed the loose sections and finished it again in lime. You can't see where they were any more.
We had been fed up with that peeling wall in the hallway for years. Limewash on, and the damp from the sea no longer gets a grip. Lovely job.
Concrete-look bathroom, straight over the old tiles. After eight months of daily showers it still looks perfect, and cleaning takes one wipe.

Frequently asked questions
What does plastering by De Jong cost?
It depends on the technique and the state of the wall. Limewash starts at €32 per m², marmorino at €95 per m². After a visit you get a fixed price, including preparation and clearing up.
Can you work while we are living in the house?
Yes, for us that's the rule rather than the exception. We cover the floors, put up dust screens with a zip door and clear up every afternoon. Lime hardly smells.
How long does a job take?
A room in limewash is done in two days. Decorative plaster or a ceiling restoration takes longer, because each coat has to dry. The quote shows how many days we need for each room.
What is a test panel?
A patch of about half a square metre in the technique and colour you're considering, on your own wall. That way you see it in your own light before you decide. The test panel is free.
One wall, a ceiling or a whole house?
Robert comes round with samples and can put a test panel on your wall. It costs you nothing.
